Fundraising season a great success

posted Jan 21, 2016, 4:06 AM by Kidlington Scout Group   [ updated Jan 21, 2016, 4:06 AM ]

December and January are Kidlington Scout Group's busiest time for fundraising, with our three main events: Christmas Post; Bag packing at Sainsbury's and our ScoutRail model railway exhibition all just weeks apart.

All three events in December 2015/January 2016 were incredibly well supported by both members of our Scout Group and people from Kidlington and beyond. We delivered several thousand Christmas cards, spent a whole Sunday packing shopping in return for donations, and more than a thousand visitors came along to our model rail show.

These events are essential to fund the upkeep of our headquarters building in Kidlington and our boat base on the river Thames in Wolvercote. Thanks to the tremendous support of all our events, and also to some generous donations throughout the year, our Scout Group is in a great position to start 2016 and offer all our members and exciting year ahead.

To all those members, volunteers and supporters, THANK YOU!

33rd Oxford (Kidlington) Scouts and Girlguiding Kidlington District have been chosen as Midcounties Cooperative's fundraising partners for 12 months from June 2015.
The partnership officially launches on 20th June at Girlguiding Kidlington's summer fete in Church Street, Kidlington, and will involve the Cooperative supporting the groups by sharing its resources and experience to boost fundraising activities. Both need to raise large amounts of money for major essential building work at their Kidlington headquarters. The Scouts need to replace the water treatment system at their Blenheim Road centre, while the Guides plan to renovate and extend their building in Green Road.

The Scout Group came a close second in the recent Lloyds Bank Community Fund award, receiving £2000 towards repair work at the Scout Centre in Blenheim Road.
With around 1000 votes, we only narrowly missed out on the first prize of £3000, which went to the much deserved Respite Care of Oxfordshire's Youngsters (ROSY).
Many thanks to all who voted.
There are another three major fundraising events coming soon: Scout Post, bag packing at Sainsbury's and ScoutRail 2015.
